Mother at Middle School Football Game is Tased After Not Wearing a Mask

An Ohio woman was tased and arrested after refusing to leave a middle school football game for not wearing a mask. After video of the incident went viral, officials with the Logan-Hocking School District placed the schools under lockout protocol because they received multiple threats from people who were not happy with how the woman was treated.

Authorities said the woman, identified as Alecia Kitts, was "asked to comply with the Ohio High School Athletic Association's and the athletic facility's policies," while attending a football game at Logan Middle School on Wednesday (September 23). The woman refused to comply, and the officer asked her to leave the premises.

Video recorded by another fan in the stands shows the officer talking to Kitts, who is sitting in the bleachers with two adults and a child. As he attempted to place her in handcuffs, she tried to resist. One of the adults picked up the child and carried him away, while the other woman tried to stop the officer from handcuffing Kitts.

As Kitts continued to resist, the officer pulled out his taser and shot Kitts in the shoulder. After struggling for more than three minutes, the officer finally detained Kitts and led her away in handcuffs.

The Logan Police Department issued a statement clarifying that the woman was not arrested for failing to wear a mask; she was detained for trespassing after refusing to leave.

"It is important to note, the female was not arrested for failing to wear a mask, she was asked to leave the premises for continually violating school policy. Once she refused to leave the premises, she was advised she was under arrest for criminal trespassing, she resisted the arrest, which led to the use of force."

Officials said they are looking into the threats made against the schools in the district but did not provide any information on their investigation.
