Teen Taking Piano Lesson Shot Following Chase With Suspected Bank Robber

A 15-year-old boy was in the middle of a piano lesson at a music store in Chicago when he was shot in the arm and stomach. The shooting occurred following a bank robbery about ten miles away. While officers managed to capture one of the suspects at the scene, a second man fled on foot. He stole a car but was tracked down by the FBI a couple of hours later.

The suspect had just exited the highway when he saw officers and opened fire. He struck one of the officers in the head as he fled the scene. The officer, who is 46 years old and has been on the force for 17 years, was rushed to the hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

"He was fortunate. He does have a skull fracture, he does have blood on the brain. I would say he’s currently in serious but stable condition," Dr. Marius Katilius told reporters. "The next 24 hours will be pivotal in the care."

Officers with the Des Plaines Police continued the pursuit, which ended near a music store. The suspect, who was not identified, engaged in a second shootout with police. This time, he struck the 15-year-old boy before he was fatally shot by a Des Plaines officer.

The young boy was rushed to a children's hospital and is recovering from his injuries.

"This was a very tumultuous scene," Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said. "I want to offer my heartfelt concern for all those involved, and I pray for a speedy recovery of our officer and the 15-year-old."
