NFL Investigating After Fan Appeared To Shine Laser Pointer At Tom Brady

The NFL is looking into reports that a Kansas City Chiefs fan was shining a laser pointer at New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady during the AFC Championship game on Sunday (January 20). A photographer for KMBC noticed the green light flashing over Brady three times during the game.

The first incident happened late in the fourth quarter as Brady was about to snap the ball. He handed the ball off to Sony Michel and did not appear to be fazed by the distracting light over his face. The second and third times occurred near the end of the game. Brady successfully completed a pass each time.

After the game, players said they did not notice the green light and it did not appear to have any impact on the game. Tom Brady threw for 348 yards and one touchdown in the Patriots' thrilling 37-31 overtime victory

While the rogue laser pointer did not interfere with the game, NFL Vice President of Communications Brian McCarthy told the Boston Herald that NFL security is investigating the incident. The Kansas City Police Department said that they would help with the investigation if somebody files a police report.

“We’ve had some issues of lasers around the airport, but not at the stadium,” said Sgt. Jacob Becchina, spokesman for the K.C. police department, “We will investigate, though, if we receive a police report.”
