Budget Negotiators Agree to End New Natural Gas Hookups in New York

State budget negotiators reportedly have reached a tentative deal to end natural gas hookups in new construction.

Spectrum News says the the hookups for new homes and buildings no higher than seven stories would end by the end of 2026. Gas hookups would end for all other new construction in 2028.

The deal does not ban existing gas stoves and furnaces. New Yorkers would still be able to replace an old gas stove with a new gas stove.
